I’ll get this off my chest first:
ANIME EXPO 2010 WAS FUCKING AWESOME!
Man, this was the best time of the year! I think everything leading to this event was worth it.
Just a heads up, I’m gonna be writing in capslock a lot, also the words holy, epic, shit and awesome will be used ad nauseam. AND this is gonna be so… boringly… long. I hope you don’t mind ^^U
One of my goals in this AX was to have what my heart desired as priority, since the previous years I just went with no preparation and did whatever. M priorities where getting autographs from May’n, Megumi and Konishi, going to the concert and going to Danny’s panels. Of course one of the most awesome things would be meeting my comrade LS from Matthew!!! 😄 but I was very nervous since well I always get like that when I meet people in the net ^^U
I was planning to meet Lightninsabre on Wednesday, since the expo was giving the badges a day before to pre-registered people. Unfortunately they would stop giving the badges at 8pm, way close to when I could go. Nevertheless I thought maybe I could still make it, until I saw A FRIGGING LONG LINE. I couldn’t snap any pictures since I was driving, but let me tell you it was CRAZY long, considering they only had 30 minutes left (I’v eheard that a whole bunch of people had to go home without a badge after 8pm), so I just left for home.
The next day, I woke up at 6am and headed myself to make the line. By the time I was there the line was starting to get crazy, but luckily one they started giving badges they had a pretty eficient and fast way to give the badges (I think this is what got the most organization if I take into account all the lines I was in there). Once I got my badge, I made some surveillance of the buildings (to know where all the panels were held exactly) and around 9 I got in line for the May’n panel.
It was kinda funny because the Gundam panel was before hers, so the gundam and May’n attendees were all mixed up. At around 10, I finally got to meet my comrade Lightninsabre! I knew how he looked like, but he didn’t have the advantage, so I just looked around for a guy texting me and lo and behold, there he was! he was cosplaying as Mugioh, the genderbent version of Tsumugi’s ED version! I didn’t realize at first because those previous days to the con I was seriously sleep deprived, so it took me a moment to really look at him, and I must’ve looked really surprised since he started laughing lol. All I could think was “HOLY SHIT GENDERBENDER MUGI IN FRONT OF ME” XD. He joined me in the line and gave me one of my treasures from this event, mai waifu Mugi!
Two hours later we finally got into the panel, smack in the front middle. May’n is so cute! Her voice is so different from when she’s singing, it’s so soft I almost couldn’t believe she sang Sheryl’s powerful songs. I can’t remember much of what she said, but a lot of Macross was involved, of course. It is a very important part of her career, since Yoko Kanno pushed her outside her boundaries.
In this panel you could see that the AX organizers were really underestimating how popular the GoH were, since they gave the tickets to the people going out the doors in a disorderly manner. It ended up with all of us otakus bunching around the doors, hunting for the poor ticket-giving staff. LS and I started browsing the dealer’s hall for a bit, before going to line up for May’n’s autographs. We were really fucking lucky, because the line was freakishly long minutes after the panel, and it got cut just a couple of people behind us. This was one of the first autograph-line ups that needed some serious organizing from the part of AX. With that accomplished, we went our separate ways and I perused the booths to hunt for loot. At around 7pm I drove LS to Curry House, a curry (duh) restaurant in Little Tokyo where the food is utterly delicious. We also checked out Anime Jungle for a bit; lol poor employees were politely waiting for us to get the hell out 😄 Anime Jungle has a very polite staff. Not a “kiss your ass” kind of way, but they are never rude.
Friday I woke up after a couple of hours of sleep (the excitement didn’t let me sleep more than 2-3hs throughout those days ^^U) at 6am and was really reckless. I went to see if there was a line for Megu/May’n concert at EIGHT IN THE FREAKING MORNING. Of course not one soul was there, so I just sat back and chilled.
After some time I started talking about music with this dude who came almost as freakishly early as me. He was pretty fun and his taste for music was similar to mine (MAXIMUM THE HORMONE FUCK YEAH). LS arrived at some point, but that little— just stayed behind me invisible and stealthy as a ninja, making me look like a clueless fool! shiku shiku~ it’s alright though, he received his heavenly punishment!
After some walking around and annoying LS to go back, we finally got to get inside the Nokia Theater. It was very confusing how they gave away the tickets, though. I got the ticket just that morning and got a B row seat (still it was in the faaar left) while people that got it the day before got seats further back. I’m not sure how it was supposed to work. The concert was HOLY SHIT SO EPIC AWESOME I was literally in tears! A lot of times I watched live concerts and ended up disappointed because the singer wouldn’t sound like the recording, but Megumi and May’n voices are true and so beautiful. I almost fainted when May’n sang Universal Bunny and Megumi sang Sou Da Yo and of course one of my favourites Seikan Hikou. The greatest surprise though was Yoko Kanno! she came in the middle of Seikan Hikou, singing and dancing right behind Megumi. They made a beautiful mix of Aimo, Ai Oboeteimasuka between May’n, Megumi and Yoko, ending up with the ever popular Triangular duet.
The concert started late, so after waiting for LS we practically ran to Danny’s panel. Unfortunately we only catched the last part, but it was fun nonetheless and we saw the legend himself! the jan-ken-pon game was very funny, I wish we could’ve played a couple of times more, not because of the giveaways but because it was so fun getting pumped up with everyone in the audience ^^ After it LS went for Horie’s line up and I ended up getting some loot and finally went home.
So this is what happened up to Friday, will post the rest in a separate post.
