After much waiting, my baby is finally home! Yes I have a cintiq now! *dances*
Since the first time I knew about the existence of tablets, I always dreamt of having them to make my life easier. Unlike traditional methods, you practically have an infinite set of colors and can emulate almost any technique. The problem is that I’ve always been more traditional (I still like pencil and paper the best) so I never got used to regular tablets. That’s why the moment I saw the cintiq in action I’ve been salivating for one, but the price always stirred me away: $2000!!! Wacom sure is a greedy company, they know they’re the best (and most well-known) tablet producing company so they never went down the 2ks even after all these years… Even now my savings account feels the pain T^T But anyways, now that I have a cintiq all my wild dreams can come true! (except, you know, any of those that involve spending a bit of money ^^U)
My baby came at the beginning of this week in a big package, HUGE-LIEK-XBOX size. Even though I have tried the cintiqs in stores, it never stops to surprise me how big they are!
I was going to save half of the money and buy a small one, but no matter how many times I tried it in stores I couldn’t help thinking “man, this is so small!” and kept on eye-raping the big ones. As everybody and their uncle, this is not my first wacom tablet. Here’s my very first tablet. I had a lot of good times with it but I never got used to using one; I’m regretful to say its potential was never realized…
Once I figured out how to install it, I immediately got used to it. I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about not really having the pencil-on-paper feeling and about other nonsensical stuff, but all of that is nit-picking; it’s actually very intuitive. The most important aspect about having the cintiq is the time I save in about anything I do in photoshop (some people like the intuos more because they have more sensitivity). The first experimental drawing was a crappy Minmay which I drew in less than ten minutes (mostly because at the beginning I didn’t even know what I was doing), but with a regular tablet or mouse it would’ve taken me hours.
This is my second drawing; I was watching some Princess Tutu (a great title btw, especially because it doesn’t quite feel like the regular shoujo/magical girl genre) and gave it a try. To my utmost horror I realize I went back to my old style and am worse than I was before. I really need to practice more!
Now that I finally got this great tool I don’t even know where to start. I want to practice painting more because I lack too much in that department, but school is always biting my ass off so I don’t have as much time as I’d want. Even so, as I said now I save loads of time in stuff it used to take me hours, so I should be churning out cute 2D gals in no time.
Also, I wonder what this is? ufufufufu~~
By the way the Osaka from the top was done hastily in around five-ten minutes, so please overlook the horrifying sight that it is (it just reflects my happiness so well XD)
…And now I want some figmas. My GOD they’re cute! >_<
