After much pondering and dread; hearing from all corners of the world that Endless Eight was KyoAni’s metaphorical surprise buttraep to all haruhi-ists, I was very reluctant of watching it. Nevertheless, with the end of the semester I wanted to catch up with as many anime series, movies, games and miscellaneous entertainments as I could, so I decided to suffer along with my haruhi-believers.
So I finished watching Endless Eight, and I have to ask: what’s the big deal? where’s the big problem everyone was talking about?
I mean, sure we can forgive the constant re-use of the same story sequence which could have been solved in half the episodes instead of wasting budget on animating different variations of the same thing.
And we can also let the droning repetition of almost exactly the same dialogue making our ears bleed after 8 times slide.
Personally, I couldn’t stop watching! surely the different variations of clothing for the characters were, for a true haruhi-ist, a real treat to the eyes, at the very least.
I’m sure there was a deep, philosophical reason far beyond our understanding for spending the blood of so many animators for the same episode.
I don’t see a problem at all, really.

…Oh I’m so sorry, I lost myself a little there. Where was I? Oh yes! I think Endless Eight was COMPLETELY AWESOME, because mai husbando Kyon was there in all his MOE & HANDSAMU glory š
Hahaha, after a year, you’ve finally caught up, eh? As much as people did hate Endless Eight, I stood my ground to defy those odds and kept going when it first aired. I might’ve been half-delirious when I was watching them, but I did watch all of them from start to finish. And when it ended, I watched that ending several times after it aired and I would’ve been prepared to watch it 8 times 8 times 8 because it was a great ending! But I digress…
Did you happen to see this repetition while you were watching it? XD
Kyon-kun, denwa. Kyon-kun, denwa. Kyon-kun, denwa. Kyon-kun, denwa. Kyon-kun, denwa. Kyon-kun, denwa. Kyon-kun, denwa. Kyon-kun, denwa.
You see? Endless Eight is an unappreciated piece of art, affecting even our daily lives (I would drive myself mad with imouto repeating so much that, but it’s more than fitting for you ^^)
I completely forgot that jewel of yours, my friend, thank you for the bottom of my fujoshi heart.
I personally haven’t picked up Haruhi 2nd season after the Endless Eight row happened. I did watch the first 2 episodes (one on Japanese TV while I was in Tokyo for a week trip) of it before I decided to drop it as I had other things to do, and time is not a luxury that I get to enjoy unfortunately.
What made this into a potential mess was that the original novel was only one chapter long, and shows the final time of the Endless Eight loop. I remember it was one of the few one-chapter stories that I really did enjoy when I was reading the translated text online back then. I think many fans wouldn’t mind too much if the loop is repeated only a few times, e.g. 3 times the most. 8 times in total is too much for a lot of watchers.
And someone on Yahoo! Answers made some good points too – many people were anticipating for the Disappearance, which is a very big and popular arc that takes up an entire volume. The Endless Eight anime arc made the whole thing quite contraversial, and more stories could have been told in some of those slots instead.
Hahahaha thank you for the points, but I wasn’t actually asking why EE was bad; heck it was hard not to notice the several rage-storms all around the internet when it was first aired and I actually watched it now to know first-hand, so I know I already knew well enough the reasons.
This post was basically making fun of the whole arc, with me enjoying it only because Kyon was in it in all his glory and not because it was necessarily a good thing to watch. I guess people are still annoyed about it if this post was taken seriously and not for its sarcastic tone though.
But hey I really did enjoy it since my body was ready š
Bah I should have treated this post in a lighter manner then… But my serious attitude towards things would have given away a lot of things about me (and to an extent the types of anime I like to watch), as you may have noticed already.
One way or the other, Endless Eight manages to draw in a lot of discussions, be it intentional or not. I’ve decided to drop it and do something else as free time is not exactly a luxury I get to enjoy these days. Speaking of time I have imagined all of sudden of those local people there who had a long day of work, came back home with anticipation to watch it aired after midnight, only to know it’s a repetition again. It could be quite a downer for them.
Looks like I’m going back to being too serious again ^^;
That all aside, it’s been a while since I personally see fandom for Kyon. Kyon sure needs the love for all sorts of the stuff he suffers XD
I don’t get people bitching about EIGHT episodes, for Nagato it was 15,532! Also, it’s 8xMoe, 8xKyonKunDenwa and 8xI RAAAAB YOU XD
If I could retweet your post, I would XD
